For the first time ever, AtZ will feature at London International Shipping Week, where they will, in conjunction with National Maritime deliver a MIT Technical Talk session focused on reducing the environmental impact on our seas from international shipping oil pollution.
AtZ will be joined by trusted partners to deliver technical insights into pollution control within the marine environment.

Along with leading industry experts AtZ will present how technology has evolved to monitor and eliminate oil from ships bilge tanks, ensuring the future conservation of the environment and compliance by shipping operators.
Whilst looking at ways oil in water can be reduced, AtZ will also discuss water lubricated bearing technology which eliminates the sea water to oil interface found in common stern tube seal arrangements, which overall, eliminates the possibility of oil pollution from the stern tube.

Axel A Schmidt, head Research and Development Manager
Axel A Schmidt, head Research and Development ManagerAxel A. Schmidt, currently living in Hamburg, Germany, joined DECKMA in early 1996. A graduate of Applied Physics from University of Hamburg, diploma thesis on “nucleation and growth of metal alloys”, 1994/95 Axel developed the sophisticated OMD-7-oil-in-water-monitor/algorithm on free-lance basis, the first light scatter based oil-in-water monitor which measured oil-content, solids-content and turbidity simultaneously. Since 1996 Axel is responsible for DECKMA Hamburg´s research and development, and generates the whole fleet of oil-in-water-measuring equipment for marine and industrial applications, respectively. Due to Axel´s invaluable knowledge on physics, chemistry and electronics, DECKMA Hamburg, autumn 2004, could claim to be the first company worldwide presenting an oil-in-water monitor, OMD-2005, certified according MEPC.107(49), the latest IMO-regulation. Again, Axel´s sophisticated combination of design, electronics and evaluation algorithm render possible these small-angle-light-scattering instruments and allow to add special functionalities like particle size discrimination and nano scale emulsion measurement e.g., on customer demand.
Axel/DECKMA Hamburg is member of NEL´s Environmental Club since 2001, supports the club by several presentation and attends the club associated Produced Water Workshops, held in Aberdeen, UK, regularly.
Axel achieved procuration in 2014 and runs two research and development projects in conjunction with the University of Applied Sciences, Mittelhessen, Giessen, Germany, obtaining new and innovative products to DECKMA Hamburg´s portfolio.

Paul Gullett, Director
Paul Gullett, DirectorCurrently living in the East Midlands, Paul is a company director and owner of Wave International Limited and Aycliffe Filtration Limited. Alongside these two businesses, Paul is also a director and board member of British Marine and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Paul’s original training was as a boat builder with Cougar Marine, after which, he left the marine industry to become a manager for a major oilfield service company. Gaining experience in this field, Paul then started up a new oilfield technology company which was awarded several R&D grants with industry partners such as BP, Amoco and Shell. A notable success of these projects was the development of the Wavestream oil removal filtration media which saw the birth of Wave International in 1999 and Pauls return to the marine industry.
In 2009 Paul’s entrepreneurial skills and passion for the marine industry saw him start up a filtration manufacturing company based in the North East, designing and manufacturing all the Wave International filtration products along with filter cartridges for a diverse portfolio of industries applications. At present, Paul is managing Wave International’s global distribution network and running two development projects to improve and add to a growing portfolio of new and innovative products.

Carl Buddery, Engineering Director
Carl Buddery, Engineering DirectorA Mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of Sheffield, with over fifteen years’ industry experience, Carl first joined ACM in 2001 as a project engineer.
In his early days with ACM, Carl was involved in the design, development and material specification for the full bearing portfolio. Progressing through the organisation, Carl then became ACM’s Technical Manager in early 2012, followed shortly by his appointment as Engineering Director later in the year. His product expertise and dedication to the technology has positioned Carl as a key engineer for ACM, and as Engineering Director he leads the engineering department where he focuses on developing existing and new technologies along with improving material suitability and performance. Carl also manages projects, focusing typically on large assemblies requiring multi components and third party integration.
ACM Composite Bearings is a world leading manufacturer and supplier of resin bonded composite materials and non-metallic bearings to a wide cross-section of industries.
The event is also supported by Greenwich Maritime University and the SSA (Ship Builders and Ship Repairers Association).
